Building on the success of last year’s Pulse Feast, this January 18th has been officially declared Global Pulse Day.

The International Year of Pulses (IYP) may be over, but the momentum it has generated continues on through the new year. The pulse community that coalesced around IYP has channeled this energy to promote January 18th as Global Pulse Day.


Modeled after last year’s successful Pulse Feast, which was celebrated in 36 countries with 141 registered events and with a social media reach of 21 million people, Global Pulse Day aims to become an annual occasion to promote pulse consumption and raise awareness of the health benefits of eating dry beans, chickpeas, peas and lentils, and the environmental advantages of growing them.


For those who made the classic New Year’s resolution to lose weight in 2017, Global Pulse Day could not have come at a better time. Recent scientific research suggests that including pulses in your diet gives you a greater sense of satiety and thus contributes to weight loss. Those interested in shedding extra weight can find a myriad of delicious recipes from all over the world at, including tasty veggie burgers, soups, salads, curries and even desserts!

Pick out a few of these recipes and organize a pulse-based meal for this January 18th at your home, workplace or preferred venue. By doing so, you will be taking part in the worldwide celebration of Global Pulse Day 2017.
